Scope:
This Japanese Industrial Standard specifies the steel domed cap nuts (hereafter referred to as "steel nuts"), the stainless steel domed cap nuts (hereafter referred to as "stainless steel nuts"), and the copper alloy domed cap nuts (hereafter referred to as "copper alloy nuts"), all for general use for the characteristic.
- Made from 304 stainless steel, these cap nuts have good chemical resistance and may be mildly magnetic. Also known as acorn nuts, these nuts have a smooth rounded head that covers and protects threads while providing a finished appearance

They're about 25% stronger than medium-strength steel cap nuts and comparable in strength to Class 10.9 bolts. A zinc plating provides corrosion resistance in wet environments.

Product Description
The Acorn Center Lock nut machined from bar or if volumes and size allow, can be cold formed. Acorn locknuts are produced by installing 2 deflections in opposite flats precisely in the center the nut hex. Low Profile Acorn locknuts are not required to meet the thread start or torque requirements of Full Hex Center locknuts.
Applications
The Acorn locknut is used for either decorative purposes and/or to protect from scratches when surfaces would otherwise encounter exposed screw threads. Acorn Center locknuts are typically found in furniture, medical and recreational vehicle assemblies. Mating parts must extend at least one thread past the locking element to assure locking element engagement.
